Starbase Transit System Tram [12 prims] Tram Station [15 prims] Travel from one tram station on your Starbase to another inside a silky smooth, high tech tram. You get a tram and a tram station. You can mod and copy the station or tram as many times as you like. The station is a standard Exosphere module, so you can attach it to any of your Starbase units. You can install any number of tram stations and rename each one to identify its location. Then rez your tram and touch a "Call Tram" button on any station - your tram will come over and park at the station! That's all you need to do - your Starbase transit system is now up and running. Catching a tram. Press the Call Tram button at any station and the tram will come. The sign will glow and you'll get an announcement that the tram is on its way. As it arrives, it slows up, aligns itself to the station doors and docks itself. The station doors and the tram doors will automatically slide open. The tram can take up to three passengers. Enter the tram, sit on one of the three pads that show footprints, and you'll be presented with a menu displaying the names of the stations. Travelling: When you select your destination, the station doors and tram doors will close and the tram will slide gracefully to the destination station. You will be treated to all-round views of your starbase as it moves between the stations. On arrival, the doors will automatically open and you (and your passengers) will be unseated so you can walk out through the station. If you have an onward journey, simply re-seat yourself and select a new destination from the menu that will be displayed when you sit. Travel between sim surface and starbase: I tested the Tram's ability to shuttle passengers between the starbase and the sim surface, 5,000 meters below it. Not only did the tram perform perfectly, but it even increased its acceleration over the long distances and then slowed down as it approaches its destination. | Tram Station placement. The tram will take the shortest distance it can to travel to the destination. There's no need to lay out any way-points, which means that if you relocate your stations or redesign your base, everything will still continue to work correctly! As you are the starbase engineer and designer in charge, you'll need to ensure that the tram has a clear path between stations. Obstacles won't stop your tram from arriving at its destination because it will pass through any obstructions. Try to avoid this as it may scare the passengers! Notes: The floor pads in the tram with the footprints on them are meant for standing on during transit. But you'll have to right-click and select 'sit' to activate them and to get the tram to realise you want to take a ride. Don't worry, the standing-up pose will take over once you 'sit'. You'll be 'unseated' when the tram stops and the doors open. If you want to continue your journey to the next tram stop without disembarking, you will need to sit on the pad again. This will also display a menu to from which select your next destination. Passengers need to be seated or they will get bounced around or may even be left behind when the tram moves off. After about 30 seconds after arrival, the tram door and the station doors will automatically close. If you are still standing in the tram and the doors close, you can reopen them by using the Open Door button that appears on the tram wall when it is docked. If you enter a station and a tram is already docked there, you can simple touch the Call Tram button, and that will open the doors. You have lots of controls built into the system. As the owner, you can touch a tram station for a menu. From the menu, you can restrict usage of specific tram stations to public, group or even take it off-line for maintenance. When it's off-line, it won't appear as destinations on the tram menus and users of the station will be warned that it's off-line for maintenance. You can have multiple tram routes running at the same time. Do this by rezzing another tram and make sure that the text in the object description field of the tram matches the text in the object description in the Tram Stations you want it to visit - and it's done. Your trams will only see the stations designated to their route. If you need any help, please fee free to contact me. |
